Default Best practice styling app using SASS + Compass

I would like to style a list component similar to the below:

I understand I can create a custom CSS file which would overwrite default styles. But I am wondering if there is a specific way to add margins and padding to all lists using SASS and Compass.

Also, is the a list configuration option to add the margin and prevent the list from displaying fullscreen?

You can add plain CSS to your scss file and it will compile.

Thanks Mitchell. I do understand this, however, I am wondering if there is a specific way to modify the lists without custom CSS. Such as changing a SASS variable or setting a config option in the JavaScript when the list is created.
