Default Can we assign a custom sortType to a field in SA?

I'd like to use a custom sortType function on one of my model's fields, but I don't see a way to do that in SA - the sortType property is a drop-down that doesn't allow us to type a different function name.

Can this be done within SA? If not, I'd like to add it as a feature request.

A separate post indicates this will be addressed soon.. but here we are 6 months later, and no solution?

Having custom sortType function is definitely possible, at least with the latest SA 4.1.
