Default Checbox Selection Model in grid

Can somebody please let me know how can I check a row in a grid that uses Ext.selection.CheckboxModel. I need to select a row by Id of the record that is displayed in the grid. I get the id from some where else. I cannot use select by index function. I cannot select the row by passing the record object in select function as I don't have access to the original record object. I tried to create a new Record object but that doesn't help, it seems that grid stores the selected records by reference and not by some kind of Id.

I need this for implementing Select All functionality in infinite grid. Currently the Ext 4.1 grid checks only those rows that are present in the buffer and does not check the rows that are not fetched yet. Due to this when user click Select All and then scrolls down in the grid then the rows are still unchecked.

The checkbox model has select methods that you can use. The issue with infinite grid is that the data in the store is only what is visible.
