Default Unanswered: Custom KeyNav for TextField

I'm trying to replace the behavior of arrow keys in a text field (that is created by the edit plugin of a gridpanel). To start with I want to make up and down arrow commit the changes and move to the cell above/bellow.

Where would the best place be to initialize the keynav listener? I need to have access to the element for the input text field and I need access to the grid to be able to do the navigation and I need to be able to commit the changes of the field.

What event on what component do you suggest I use?

I would extend the editing plugin. It already has a keydown listener on the field.
