Default NS_ERROR_DOM_QUOTA_REACHED: Persistent storage maximum size reached

I'm having the same issue as described in the link below with ST 2.4.1 when our app is packaged (touch only, no PG or Cordova) via production flag. Was there ever an official bug generated for this? Does anyone have any workarounds shy of overriding touch/microloader/production.js? Clearing localStorage resolves this issue, but for some reason as new versions of code are deployed to localStorage, old ones are not properly cleared and eventually exceed the limits.

I don't see any bug reports for this issue, nor could I find any workaround. Perhaps this would make a good feature request.
