Maybe you can upload multiple files with DD if you use applet, but did you make website anytime with ajax and javascript features and java applet? I think it sounds terrible...
While this applet started (initialization), I upload three image (with 10-30k filesize).
And you must accept the security question, and click on the applet to start. Is it user friendly?
You can create multiple file input tag, and you can upload multiple files, but you can choose only file in the browser. Because of security reasons. This security problems remains open, if you upload these files with Java, but you do not take care about of it.

Yes - it's a trade-off. If you want security without permission dialogs and a public web page then stick with the multiple input controls. If you have a web-based desktop app, where the user is loading many files from localhost or the LAN then maybe an applet makes more sense.

I would much sooner use Flash for uploading then an applet. BTW flash allows filetype exclusions and multiple files.

Is there a flash upload example that allows you to drag and drop files or folders from the local filesystem into a web page and then upload them to a server? I have seen ones that allow multiple file selections. e.g. http://www.element-it.com/MultiPowUpload.aspx
but none yet that support drag and drop.

In the HTML you must to create an IFrame with uiframe ID (in the final, sofisticated version, it will be created by the code...).
    - It's works only with Prototype, you can change the $() and the this.method.bind(this) style.
Use YUI as a foundation, and it will do all that for you. You can just use Ext.UpdateManager.formUpdate: http://www.extjs.com/deploy/ext/docs...tml#formUpdate
