BTW I love Google Trends as a
    gage for interest.
Within the context of this thread, Bwahahahha. Really? I think hands-on vetting is the best. If you were starting your own software company I seriously doubt you'd make it open open open source. As a consultant/contractor I understand the rationale for asking for "free stuff".

It looks like Ext JS is still trending ahead of Idera in this comparo.

This is probably a more useful comparison

Apples to Oranges, folks. The only thing of note in these comparisons is the precipitous drop in interest in ExtJS. And that, in and of itself, doesn't mean much.

They are releasing single developer versions of extjs again!

And as for the key devs on Sencha, they left 2-4 years ago, mostly new team over the last 2 years, other than the mighty support people, who might also be leaving... maybe retiring with their options... #lol @captainamazing

Are you talking about the people like Ed and Jamie? If so, those are the people responsible for driving extjs into the ground with a crappy 4 release that had tons of bugs and extremely poor performance that made many loose faith in sencha and moved to other things. Not sure I'd call them the only "key devs". People like Don Griffin are the ones that had to save extjs.

I largely agree with your assessment. The new tech leads are more mature and experienced.

Sencha products have been steadily improving, but their pricing model is NOT competing well in the market.

Take a look at Webix. They have a Team Pack pricing (for 5 developers), but they also offer a single developer license.

Sencha needs to have more flexible prices!!

Really? This is the first I've heard of the change...unless you're speaking of the new consulting licenses.

Do you have a source? This would be exciting news!

I tried to purchase a single licence under "the Independent Consultant Program" but they refused because I have some other ties with my client. I qualified under all the eligibility criteria that they published but they arbitrarily decided not to honour the advertised program. Even though both I and the my client are pretty micro with a lot less than revenue of $1m. It feels like any excuse to refuse frankly. Consequently when I told my client's commercial director that I (ultimately he) would have to fund 5 licences he went through the roof and has told me to stop work on our Extjs proof of concept. Next week they will meet and decide if that is a permanent stop. I suspect it might be - they don't like being mugged and they certainly don't want to start a new relationship with a vendor by being mugged. I can't disagree with them really.
