Default Tips on running Ext 1 and 2 at the same time

A lot of our existing code is running on Ext 1.
We would like to start using Ext 2 moving forward, but would like to upgrade our Ext 1
in a piecemeal fashion, as an upgrade path.
What would be the best way for Ext 1 and 2 to coexist together?

My understanding is that both of them exist in the same namespace, and that there might be conflicts with two versions of the CSS also.

Has anyone ever undertaken an effort to make the two live together in harmony?

I really dont think it is practical to expect to use both at the same time. A better idea would be to install both on the server, but only include one or the other. Start working on an upgraded version of the app in parallel while leaving the existing one in place for production use.
