In talking to our customers all over the world, we’ve seen some consistent trends around the strategic importance of web technology and a shift away from native development as organizations try to improve developer productivity and deliver increasingly complex applications to their users – faster. It made us wonder if our Sencha customers were unique in this way or representative of a larger trend.

To find out, we commissioned Forrester Consulting to create a new study to understand key market trends, challenges, and best practices associated with web and mobile application development practices. Forrester surveyed 120 senior technical leaders in North America and Western Europe.

The study confirmed much of what we were hearing from our customers. Results showed that web technology, as compared to native, is becoming increasingly critical to organizations’ web and mobile application strategies.

27% reported shifting away from native development to web technology. Companies are increasingly selecting web technology over native to improve development efficiency and “do more with less” by building apps with greater sophistication and complexity in the same amount of time.
63% report that web technology is critical to their web and mobile application strategies. Web technology has gone mainstream with a majority of companies reporting that it is critical to their application strategy for meeting the increased customer demand across multiple systems and platforms.

Companies reported that deployment and security are two of the greatest barriers to success. We recognized this concern early and created Sencha Space to help eliminate the security risks and deployment delays associated with native packagers.
