Sencha 2024/2025 Roadmap
In this Sencha 2024/2025 roadmap update, you will find a detailed summary of what we’ve planned for the near future. The Sencha team interacts with customers on an everyday basis. Your feedback plays a significant role in driving our overall product direction. Before we get to the details of our updated roadmap, we wanted to recap what we’ve delivered in recent months.
Recent Releases
Sencha Ext JS 7.8 – Released on May 22, 2024
Sencha Ext JS 7.8 was released on 22 May 2024. The release includes both new features and quality improvements. The Ext JS 7.8 release includes Froala as a new feature for the classic toolkit, improvements to CheckBox, Grid and DataView, highly requested features for Grid, Combo, CheckBox, Chart, Date Field, TreePanel, Store and more, along with quality improvements in both toolkits and Sencha Tooling.
Key highlights of this release include:
- Quality enhancements in Ext JS for Modern & Classic Toolkit focused on Grid, Chart, TreePanel, ComboBox, Date Field, Store etc., Open Tooling, and much more.
- Extending our existing Froala Editor support from Modern to Classic
- Improvements to Sench’’s Ext JS kitchensink examples
- Sencha Tooling Improvements:
- Support for LTS Java Version 17 and 21 and Node 20, for CMD, Sencha Architect, Themer and Toolings, to provide customers with greater flexibility
- Upgraded closure compiler to support up to ES14 (2023) Features
- An updated Sencha JetBrains plugin with with 2023.3.3 IDE version support along with fixes
- ExtGen and Sencha Cmd Updates
- Upgrade Advisor, Sencha Architect and Themer quality enhancements
- IDE Plugins
- Sencha JetBrains Plugin, Sencha Eclipse Plugin, and Sencha Visual Studio Code Plugin with support for Ext JS 7.8
- Numerous quality improvements for customer requests
Below is a summary of what the Sencha team is currently working on and will be working on Next.
Sencha React ReExt – Integrating Ext JS with React
Sencha ReExt gives React developers all the power and functionality of the Ext JS components. This release focuses on:
- Supporting the latest version of React (currently v18 but soon v19)
- Supporting the latest version of Ext JS (currently v7.8)
- Support for React frameworks like Next JS
- Use of Ext JS Themes
- Support for both the Modern and Classic toolkits
- Support for Right To Left (RTL) languages
- Support for Ext JS Locales

Rapid Ext JS (Visual Studio Code Extension) v1.0.0
Rapid Ext JS is a VS Code GUI plugin that helps in the rapid development of Ext JS applications. This lightweight GUI extension will help developers minimize hand-coding efforts with a low-code editor. The extension will provide support for 140+ Ext JS components that will enable quick drag and drop, edit configs with real-time preview, and more options. Following our beta release, the team is gearing up for the official 1.0 public release which will include support for Ext JS 7.8.
Sencha Architect 4.3.6
Sencha Architect is the ultimate visual app builder for developing cross-platform HTML5 applications on desktop and mobile devices. This release focuses on:
- Enhanced support for seamless installation across all platforms
- Support for the Theme Tab, which aids in the quick styling of your application and components
- Froala Component support from 7.8 in classic toolkit
- Enhance the application upgrade feature to allow users to update their application to the latest Ext JS version seamlessly.
- Support for all major platforms of Windows, macOS, and Linux
Coming Up Next
GXT 4.2.0
GXT is Sencha’s comprehensive Java framework for building web apps using the GWT (formerly Google Web Toolkit) compiler. It allows developers to write apps in Java & compile their code into highly optimized cross-platform HTML5 code.
This quality enhancement focused release will include:
- Support for higher JAVA version (Java LTS 17/21)
- Support for GWT 2.11.0
- Implementation of top customer requests
We are planning a beta release before the public release, so if you’re interested in participating in the beta program, please reach out to your Sencha account manager.
Ext JS 7.x
This will be a quality enhancement focused release. We plan to include the following updates in this release:
- Numerous improvements in Ext JS for both Toolkits and Tooling updates:
- Enhancements to Grid features
- CMD improvements for closure compiler and Open tooling/NPM improvements
- Quality enhancements addressing customer requests
Sencha Test 2.5
Sencha Test is the most comprehensive unit and end-to-end testing solution for Ext JS. This Sencha Test release will be focused on quality enhancements, including:
- Support for modern browser versions
- Quality improvements for Webdriver mode
- Address top customer requests
Coming Up Later
Rapid Ext JS (Visual Studio Code Extension) v1.x
Rapid Ext JS – This update release will be focused on:
- Numerous quality enhancements on Rapid Ext JS
- Extending support for easy migration from Sencha Architect to Rapid Ext JS – allow users to open existing/old Sencha Architect projects and modify them in Rapid Ext JS
Ext JS Feature Release 8.0
In parallel with the 7.x updates, the team is also working on plans for the next major version release.
For the next major version release, the following features are under consideration:
- Grid improvements such as locked grid, cell editing, filtering, grid summary etc.
- New theme for both toolkits that modernizes the look and feel of Ext JS components, and creates visually appealing and user-friendly apps
- New Material Design themes for both Classic and Modern Toolkit
- Enhancing interaction dynamics at the component level within themes
- Address top customer requests in Ext JS for both Toolkits and Tooling updates
- Backward compatibility to ensure easy integration with existing infrastructures and a smooth transition path for users upgrading from earlier versions of Ext JS.
- This release will also focus on limiting breaking changes:
- Our top goal is to reduce disruptive changes as much as possible to give our users a seamless transition.
- We will carefully assess any upgrades or enhancements to our product to detect any effects on current integrations, setups, and customizations.
