Comprehensive array of tools, webinars and educational resources help Adobe® Flex® Software developers make the switch from Flash to HTML5-based professional development tools that leverage their core skills. Sencha technologies enable Flex developers to create rich, Web-standards-based apps that reach millions of mobile users via their browser, today.
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.: The rise to prominence of touch-based tablets and smartphones running Apple iOS and Google Android means millions of Flex developers are eager to develop rich Web apps and user experiences that can run in the browser, plug-in free. Sencha, the leading provider of HTML5 frameworks and tools for desktop and mobile application developers, is launching an initiative that gives Flex developers the tools, training and support they need to smoothly transition from Flash to HTML5-based open Web technologies.
Starting today, Sencha is offering Flex developers a variety of ways to become familiar with the Sencha suite of professional tools, which include Sencha Designer, a full-featured application builder for mobile and desktop Web applications, and Sencha Touch, the industry’s leading JavaScript framework for developing HTML5 Web apps and mobile-packaged applications.
Ted Patrick, Sencha director of developer relations, sees Sencha technology as a great fit for Flex developers who want to reach the rapidly growing market for HTML5 applications: “Developing with Sencha frameworks enables Flex developers to leverage their core skills and build apps from classes, components, and JavaScript that deliver pixel-perfect rendering across all popular mobile and desktop platforms. In addition to our professional-grade tools, Sencha offers the training, support, and documentation that Flex developers need to tackle serious development projects.”
HTML5-focused tools and training resources designed specifically for Flex developers
To help Flex developers ramp up fast with new HTML5 technologies, Sencha has developed an educational curriculum and tools designed specifically for Flex developers. The Sencha initiative kicks off with a free webinar: Moving from Flex to HTML5 and Sencha. Along with the webinar, Sencha is delivering a series of HTML5 applications roadshow training events in the coming months, and has published a white paper: The Development Manager’s Quick Guide to HTML5. In addition, Sencha is developing additional features for its products to make it easier to connect to SOAP and SOA-based backends, and is implementing support for Adobe Action Message Format™ (AMF) to make it easier for developers to leverage existing backends while migrating their user interfaces to Sencha-based technology.
“Sencha frameworks provide a solid transition for Flex developers who want to get productive with HTML5,” said Brett Cortese, president & CEO of Universal Mind. “We’re excited by the speed and efficiency we’ve gained by using Ext JS and Sencha Touch for our clients’ projects. We’re also glad to be a part of the strong partner community and ecosystem that Sencha has built.”
“Sencha is our vendor of choice for JavaScript frameworks. Ext JS and Sencha Touch are well architected, cleanly extensible, and offer a solid foundation for any serious JavaScript development. Plus, we can take advantage of the Sencha professional-grade technical support, training and services to support our consulting projects,” said Yakov Fain, managing director and partner of Farata Systems.
“Sencha Touch is built from the ground up to leverage HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, enabling us to build rich Web applications that look and feel native right out of the box,” said Craig Walker, CTO of Xero. “Relying on the extensive set of UI widgets, layouts and animations in a well-designed and extensible framework, we were able to start building features immediately from day one rather than worrying about the underlying architecture. Plus, we were able to leverage our existing skills and use open Web technologies.”
“Sencha frameworks provide a component layer and solid structure to ensure our large dev teams stay in sync when we create intricate components for our clients’ multi-layer enterprise apps,” said Michael Labriola, senior consultant and founding partner of Digital Primates. “We’re excited about the advantages of the lightweight deployment model, and the cross-browser compatibility is very compelling.”
Sencha technologies are a great fit for Flex developers
Sencha offers Flex developers a fast path to getting productive with HTML5. Similar to Flex, Sencha frameworks are object-oriented and component-based, and offer a rich set of UI widgets, layouts, and animations, with complete object lifecycle management and event handling. For more rapid development, Flex developers can use Sencha Designer, a visual application builder for the creation of complex user interfaces, data models and controllers. Sencha toolsets and frameworks are backed by professional-grade technical support, services and training.
